‘Wow!’ Harri blinked in the heat and flame. ‘You could have escaped anytime!’

‘I could have,’ Tân replied. ‘But you didn’t want me to. Now things have changed. Come on. Climb on my back. We need to get away while we can.’

Well done, Harri, thought DS Hughes, as the dragon leaped off the side of the castle with Harri clinging on tightly round its neck. You are one plucky lad.

She pressed the switch on her radio and talked into her headset. ‘Okay! Operation Firestorm is underway. Do not lose sight of that dragon! I need constant reports of where they are.’

‘Roger, Sarge!’ A chorus of voices answered in her earpiece.

DS Hughes walked to the baker’s shop on the corner that was just opening up. She bought a couple of bacon rolls and two cups of coffee, one with two sugars and one black without — the way her boss liked it. It was time they met up and planned the rest of the day. They needed to start Operation Firestorm.
